June 2019 Update

As many of you will be aware Walton Children’s Centre is to become a Family Centre.

In Elmbridge there will be two main family centres, one in Walton and one in Molesey and an additional delivery site in Cobham. As the children’s centres start to become family centres some of the services will no longer run, for example most play and learn sessions will not be available from 1st September 2019. Some services will hopefully continue to run and we will update you when future services have been finalised with the new provider.

Surrey County Council are waiting for the return of the tender documents and a new provider will be appointed mid July. Transition from Grovelands School governance to the new provider is scheduled to be finalised mid November.

In line with previous years Walton Children’s Centre will run a summer programme and the last session will be a Play and Learn session on Friday 16th August 2019. We are finalising the summer timetable in the next couple of weeks.

The Centre will remain open during the summer for anyone who would like support and advice from 0900-1500 every day until 23rd August. Although not confirmed as yet the centre will close for one or two weeks commencing 26th August 2019 for its annual deep clean and to organise the transition to the Family Centre.

Families already receiving individual family support from their children’s centre will continue to do so. Your outreach/family worker will work with you to make sure that this is not disrupted during the change to the Family Centre.

How do I find out about local services in my area?

There are many service and activities being run in the local area and the Family Information Service provides a local directory for families with children o to 19 years (up to 25 for those with special educational needs or disabilities).

If you need to contact a Health Visitor to book or change an appointment you can call the local health centre on 01932 414149. This number is not always monitored but you can leave a message. If you need some advice about your child there is a manned health visitor helpline on 01883 340992.

Finally, all the staff at the centre would like to thank everyone who has supported the centre over the years. We have really enjoyed getting to know you all and seeing your little ones grow from bumps to babes to toddlers to young children. We have certainly had lots of fun with the children and we will miss, as much as you will, the open Play and Learn sessions. We are planning some fun sessions over the summer holidays so look out for the new timetable coming out soon. We will try and provide you with as much as information as possible on alternative services you can attend from September 2019.

May 2019 Update

As you may know there will be changes this year to children’s centres and how Surrey County Council supports families.

The new approach will involve Surrey County Council focusing its resources on helping the families most in need of support, which means that some of the existing children’s centres will close and others will become Family Centres. Surrey County Council will no longer provide universal services for all families at Family Centres but other organisations, such as health visitors, may offer these at the centres and at other community venues.

You can use the Family Information Directory to find universal and other services, support groups, activities, events and more.

The changes will take place at different times across Surrey’s 11 districts and boroughs, so to make sure families can find out what is happening in their area the district and borough pages on the Family Information Service website will be regularly updated from April. They will provide information about when current activities offered at children’s centres will close and where Family Centres will open.

In addition there is a new page on the website which provides information about the final proposals that were agreed by Surrey County Council’s Cabinet. This also has a link to the results of the consultation that was undertaken to get views and suggestions on the draft proposals.
