Attenborough 215/5 dec Walton 125/6

A leisurely sunday drive to the beautiful ground of Attenborough - set next to a nature reserve on one side and overlooked by period houses on the other. Fab setting on a fab day. With 9 men Attenborough kindly volunteered one of their men, Paul, thank you Paul for drawing the short straw - 10 v 10.

Walton won the toss and sent the opposition into bat on a virgin green wicket expecting the ball to slow onto the bat - which it was. We got three early wickets before the "big boys" came in and set about our bowlers - ho hum! A club that size with 4 teams in the Notts league and 2 sunday sides it was inevitable to get some high class bowlers and batsmen. Decalring on 215/5 we were set a grand total to chase.

Our fielding overall was very lack lustre and well below par - not a great deal of effort displayed - very little walking in, backing up or support of the bowlers in the warm sunshine. Not everybody stood with hands in pockets or on hips watching the world go by - James Conway excelled in the outfield making some stunning stops, chase downs and the odd catch - pity some others didn't follow his example!! You know who you are!!!

John Shipman made another stunning catch this season to cement the "catch of the season" award - he really has this in the bag with two beauts so far. This one, a c & b diving full length forward to secure the wicket - great take John!!

Tea - what can I say - BEST TEA THIS SEASON - all plated well layed out with salad. boiled egg, ham, buttered bread etc - lovely - not to mention the huge selection of cakes - fresh cream scones- yummy. Marky Butt is now the clubs offical CAKE Monster consuming FIVE cakes in one sitting - at least I think it was FIVE - he may have stuffed a few more in his pockets for RON(later on) - piggy whack!!!!

Tea over, openers out to bat, the rest of us well, sod it, wimbledon mens final on the telly - retire to the bar. Tennis over, John and Roger still batting!! Some very tight bowling, very difficult to get the ball away. John finally goes LBW and Butty soon follows by a ridiculous catch at square after middling a sweet shot and the fielder popping his hands up in defence and the ball sticking - unbelievable..... Young Tom last a short spell as do I falling to a superb one handed dive catch at first slip - amazing fielding!! "Back Step Gazelle" pops in for a brief spell as does James. These wickets are all worth it as Rodger the Dodger bats through the innings securing his

51 not out

off the last but one ball with a superb four - well batted Roger!!!

Losing draw and and a few sherbits in the bar end a summers day!
