Derby Day!!

On a very warm sticky day Walton 2nds played host to their local rivals Burton 2nds in senior league four. After winning the toss Burton elected to bat first on a track ideal for batting. However they got off to a bad start as opener Russell was caught for 2 off the bowling of Moreland (4-62) He was soon followed by Neal 1 and stewart 4 both falling to Richards (4-37). Then a stand between Headley 61 and T. Shipman 42 helped stabalise the Burton innings. By the time Moreland finally removed both their off stumps the damage had been done. Richards and Allen (2-57) cleared up the tail and Burton were finally all out for 173 after 34.2 overs. In reply Walton started slowly losing Mudvardia for 4. S. Conway 9 soon followed. A stand between Watkins 51 and Allen 25 pushed the order along nicely and at one stage Walton looked as if they would make the 174 needed for a sweet derby victory. However nothings that simple at Walton, and when Shipman snr and jnr took 2 wickets apiece Burton could sense a win. However they failed to take the last wicket ( Walton only had ten men again!!!!) and Walton closed on 130 /8. It was an enjoyable day and both sides showed that sportmanship still can be shown in a competitive local Derby!!!
